Our Organisation
The Electronic Technicians Institute of Australia (TETIA) was founded in 1956 as the Television and Electronic Technicians Institute of Australia, to provide professional support and recognition for radio tradesmen and engineers who had undertaken extra study and training in the fields of television and commercial electronics. The name was changed in 1983 to reflect the fact that television is now only a small part of the electronics industry and that electronics technicians are employed in a wide range of industries throughout the community and industry.

ORGANISATION
TETIA currently has four State Divisions, in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia. Members in Queensland and ACT are attached to the NSW Division and Tasmania are attached to the Victoria Division. The Institute is Incorporated under a Federal Council (A.C.N. 004 562 449) which provides overall guidance for the Divisions. Subject to such Federal guidance, each Division is free to establish its own agenda and to conduct its own affairs as best suits its situation.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership of the Institute is restricted to persons of good repute who have (a) gained an appropriate certificate after an approved course of study at a college of TAFE, in an armed services trade school or other similar tertiary institution and (b) have not less than five years full time experience in the electronic service industry. Associate membership is open to persons who have one or other but not both of the above qualifications, and Student Membership is open to persons undertaking an approved course of instruction, apprenticeship etc.

OBJECTIVE
The aim of the Institute is to help and encourage members to improve their technical skills and knowledge. Members are expected to maintain their competence by continued study and attendance at technical lectures and seminars etc. Members maintain an informal network of expertise by which new or unusual information can be exchanged among their number.

ETHICS
The Institute demands of its members the highest level of ethical conduct within the community and provides a medium for the investigation and settlement of complaints against its members by individual citizens or public bodies.
